This is an original Line 6 Variax 500. I bought it several years ago within months of it being available in this country and haven't regretted it once. At the time it was very controversial. No pickups and all computer wizardry. It uses the emulation technology that Line  6 had developed from the POD and amplifiers to emulate the sound of many famous guitars. You can just dial them up on the control nob and selector switches.  I don't do live  gigs, so can't vouch for it on stage but it's the ideal guitar for the bedroom guitarist. Any sound you want at your fingertips. The versatility encouraged practice. Reasonably priced. The neck is wide enough for fingerpicking and action good enough for speed. I'd certainly recommend it for any beginner or anyone on a budget.
