This was my special present to myself when I took early retirement a few years ago. I went up to Denmark Street and looked at and tried all sorts of guitars. I had trawled the intenet and read reviews and was pretty convinced I'd go for a Godin midi equipped solid body. The when I tried one it was a beautiful guitarbut it was just too heavy for  me and didn't suit. I was really disappointed and came home empty handed. I also fancied a hollow body like a Gibson ES 335 or 339 but liked the idea of a Bigsby tremolo.  After a few weeks back home mulling it over, I went to my favourite local guitar emporium, Guitar Mania in Poole.  The guys there were as helpful as ever. When I tried the Gretsch, it spoke to me. Love at first play. Think Chuck Berry, Johnny B. Goode. Sounds nice, even unplugged. Bit of a stretch to get the right arm comfortably over that large body for prolonged playing sitting down but worth the effort.
